I had some questions about server status asked few times already, so I'll post answer here.

The project status is alpha, because there are few known (and not-so-known) issues with BOINC wrapper, which is used to run Stefan Krah's Enigma in BOINC environment. Problems like progress indicator not working, CPU time not saved on shutdown, Win98 pop-up window :P and few more minor bugs.
There are some problems with work units wrapper, which downloads work units from M4 server and puts them in local databases. From time to time you'll see work units crashing at startup, however it's very unlikely to see one crashing in the middle of processing.
Linux app has it's own problems, it has been recompiled few times already, current version has been tested on some of the latest linux distributions, and some older. Usually it works, if you have BOINC client 5.8.x or later, but if you find any problems, let me know.

Everyday I'm working on bugfixes or improvements, I do it in my free time, so it may take some time before I'll fix everything. At this moment, #1 on my to-do list are some improvements on the backend database and work wrapper, as soon as I finish it, I'll try to add missing features to the BOINC wrapper.

Project is currently running as a 'productive test' - work units are taken from Stefan's alpha server. Our ciphertext is the last unbroken M4 message, truncated to first 72 letters. That's because it's possible that there are letters missing, and splitting messages into parts is a method of dealing with it.

Are we also submiting results to Stefan's server? I'm asking cause according to logs on M4 Project site, it seem that procesing rate has not increesed since Enigma@Home was established.

P.S.
Kawał porządnej roboty odwaliłeś TJM!
Już myślałem, że M4 się wykruszy zanim uda się złamać ostatnią wiadomość, ale teraz...
:)

In the past, the alpha server was used to do some tests. Now BOINC wrapper uses it 8-)
