Message 538 - Posted: 23 Aug 2008, 22:44:48 UTC - in response to Message 529.

Why is the new optimized app (enigma_0.76_windows_intelx86.exe) dated August 2007 when the ordinary app (downloaded when you attach to the project) is dated September 2007? Shouldn't the optimized app have a later date?

Ignore the dates, default app is newer because it was recompiled at some point.

Why was the enigma_0.76_windows_intelx86.exe redownloaded? I've used Athlon64 optimisied binaries.

Looks like you tried to replace executable without switching to anonymous platform - read my first post in this topic.

The red message 'No work sent' means that all workunits loaded into the feeder's queue are assigned to reliable hosts (RAC > 100, avg_turnaround < 3 days and very low error_rate).

Your first post only ask to copy files from those two archives - and I did that. With the exact order shown on the screens. What else I should have done?

Message 552 - Posted: 29 Aug 2008, 22:24:40 UTC - in response to Message 544.

I just finished a hceyz72 WU (task 478282), and had an awgly100 (task 479233) ready to start which I suspend before it began. After stopping all BOINC activity (client and manager), I replaced my files with the latest optimized files from the zips.
On restarting BOINC, the awgly100 WU had vanished from my task list.
What did I do wrong? Should I have just shutdown BOINC without suspending the WU first?

Nevermind - BOINC realised the WU had got lost, and it has been downloaded again.

Restart with Boinc from zero took only the half time, so checkpointing is working but the time is not running from the last end point.

Yep, that's a known problem - checkpointing works, but CPU time is not saved. It's already on the to-do list, not working progress indicator is also there.
I was going to work on this last weekend, but I had to fix some minor bugs on the server side first.

hi @ all,

is this problem solved now? while wu is running, the progress stays at 0% but the elapsed time counts. if i restart boinc, it starts with 0 elapsed time.
is there anything i do false? i´ve the newst version of boinc.

thanks 4 your help

The oldest (default) app which is used to crunch hceyz72 workunits still uses the old wrapper, which doesn't support progress indicator. It won't be updated, because sooner or later it will be replaced by the second app. All other apps (the default one which crunches awgly100 workunits and linux/windows 'experimental optimized apps') were fixed.

Somethings wrong here... BOINC 6.2.18 (Windows XP SP3 32bit) ignores the app_info.xml. On my desktop computer it does work, cause when I start BOINC, it shows something like "Found app_info.xml for Enigma" in Messages Tab.

Here on my notebook it doesnt.

Its both Win XP, its both 6.2.18 - only difference is CPU (Notebook: Celeron 550 - using FCPGA exe / Desktop: Phenom) and different drives/folders

*confused*

When Enigma starts, all WUs crash immediately!

Also on my desktop, after restarting BOINC it shows the Opt. App in Tasks Tab, here on my notebook it still shows the "normal" app...

Edit: Afterwards, when Enigma connects to server again and requests new work, its downloading

wrapper_5.17_windows_intelx86.exe
wrapper_5.22_windows_intelx86.exe

again... (??)

Have you copied all the required files (app_info.xml, dictionaries, ciphertext, executables) to the correct folder ? If you did, and the manager didn't see app_info then it looks like manager bug - I'll try 6.2.18 later to see if I'll be able to reproduce this error.

Anything cool to try on my new Core2Quad with 64 bit Linux? I've never used an optimized app for this project but my new box would make it worthwhile I think...

I downloaded the latest version yesterday, but it shows as 5.17 in BOINC. Am I running the right version or should I change anything?
I haven't got any awgly-WU's yet, that's why I'm a bit worried

I think only the hceyz-WUs use the 5.17 opt app, awgly's do use the 5.22 opt app so it should be fine. ;-)

You may need to compile your own. Not too hard to do. Just run the makefile, and remove the reference to SGT in the source code (see the "Tried compiling....SGT.o error" thread) and lookup on what gcc flags to set for 64-bit Linux and you will have your own app soon enough, tuned for your CPU.

I have a question

I decided I want one of my computers to run on it's own for a while cause I'll be lending it to someone else for a while. For that reason I want to stop using the optimized applications cause it wouldn't update to new versions if I didn't.
Is it enough to just delete the app_info.xml file? I did this and it seems that awgly100 workunits are still using an optimized client.
Under "application" it says Enigma 0.76 5.17 for hceyz72 workunits, and Enigma 0.76b-Opt 5.22 for awgly100's.

Reset or detach/reattach the project is better solution IMO, this will make sure that the client runs default app.
