So far everything looks good, I've just finished upgrading server files and database to the latest version. It took less time than cleaning dust from server hardware.

The server is up, but the website will be down for next hour or maybe a little longer, because I have to apply some patches and check if everything works as it should.

Or maybe not so good. I'm getting checksum errors and the latest task says download failed as status.

Yup, it did.

Sorry it took me a while to come back, but BOINC insisted on throwing two 5 minute deferrals at me when I tried to recommunicate without being patient enough. ;)

Now, now, I am not that scary, am I?

Either I shouldn't post here anymore, to make sure your health keeps up.
Or you should go find a less stressful environment. How about gardening? :D

I like working in the garden, but it's late autumn, nothing to do there :>

I have to upgrade server again, to rev 14015, because private messages are broken in this version.

And you care about that... why?

You're not even using the BOINC forums software. So who exactly is using the PM function of it then?

You can use private messages without visiting build-in forums,  it's a quick way to contact someone.

I have no idea, but select max(id) from private_messages; shows 60+, so someone used them. Maybe spammers are selling viagra via PMs ?   :)

I think it wouldn't be too hard to copy all the content from here to BOINC forums db, but I'm not sure if my connection is good enough to handle additional load. Also, all the website requests are going through reverse http proxy outside my network, which has its own limits.

I don't know what you think is quick, but without the forum software it's rather slow.
Let's see, I open a second tab with front page, going to Participants Profiles, let's take Kathryn as I know her nickname. Get her info, press link to write PM.

If ever I want to read any PM I get back (checking if I have email notification on), I'll have to go through My Account to read it. Quick? Nah.
Then the PM option on the forums here is a bit quicker. :)

That's probably the group that's using it. I haven't had a PM from any of them yet, so I can't say for sure.

Not everyone with a project account has a forum account.

Hm I'll do forum speed tests tomorrow, but I guess that opening long topics won't be too fast, because each page has to go from Poland to USA (where the reverse proxy server is located) before going to the user who requested it.

Who should I contact about the (polish) translation of project webpages ? Character encoding is wrong, polish national characters are missing, it makes some pages look really bad.

Sign up for the BOINC Loc email list and send it to there.

I did get Jord's PM.  However the only reason I knew about it was because he asked me about it.  No email notification of the PM and the little box is checked in my preferences.  It's not the mail server though.  I just requested my account key and no problem with that.

I've just checked mail server logs, either something went wrong when I updated the BOINC server, or it's a bug in revision 14015. PMs notifications are not send, and it's not mail server problem, because it doesn't receive any. I'm going to upgrade again to the latest version (it takes 10-15 minutes, when there's no DB update) to see if that helps.

I've just finished upgrading, currently used server software revision is 14079.
It looks like PM email notifications are working again, but now I have 'translation missing' messages on the main page.

The "Notify about new private messages by email" in Forum Preferences seems to be set "ON" by default.

There has been much discussion with David Anderson (Dr. BOINC) this week about this, on the Google group "Teams and Email" thread, the boinc_dev mail list (11/20 post) and BOINC Trac.

He has stated unequivocally that this must NOT be set ON by default.

Please un-set this for everyone, and those that want email notifications can reset it to "ON".
