Tomorrow (04.03.2013) around 08:00 GMT the server will go offline for 12-24 hours.
The reason for this is hardware replacement, the old server barely keeps up running under load and has serious performance issues.
The swap is going to take a while because I need to copy data from both old drives, I hope that 'dd' image will do the trick.

*Nice*
Enigma fits right in with class I am taking through Coursea.org.
Makes this even more interesting knowing what I now know!!!

For future reference, I would use dd_rescue for such a transfer.

Why? Because it handles bad sectors gracefully. Plain old dd will either drop out with an error message, or misalign all the data after the error.

I learned it the hard way.
I used dd and somewhere in the middle it stopped with error, then I googled a bit and found ddrescue, which was already available on the sysrescd I used.

Ddrescue offers also a progress info, which is a very nice thing to have - dd just runs silently and the user has to guess how long will it take.

I probably will suggest you to read more regarding backing up
Hard drive and other files

But I think you should not have any issue hopefully.
Kind Regards
Giuseppe
