Nope, it's random.

Well done!

Does this mean we have just 2 messages to decrypt ?

Only one left, the server status still shows the m4_fnygm76 which is the broken message.

Message 2568 - Posted: 21 Jun 2013, 13:56:04 UTC

Hello everybody!
Great work for the project!
Congrats to all the Enigma crunchers!
Thanks for giving me an opportunity to let it happen.
I know this could happen to me. Do you know why? Simply because it's my first BOINC project (and probably the most favourite one). There's some magic inside of it. I knew it since the very beginning.

I have a question.
Can someone figure out which one of my PCs cracked this message?
I want to give it a big sweet candy.

P.S. Thanks to my dear Keep The Fire Alive crunchers. Together forever ;)

If someone is interested in "RHV" (Reservehandverfahren):

You will find further information about the "RHV" cipher system on the "Breaking German Navy Ciphers" project website...

Question:
So how many Enigma messages are still unbroken?

Well, that depends. As to actual 70 year old unbroken messages, I don't know. I believe though one of the early messages to be broken here had already been broken previously, but unless you have access to both encrypted and plain text messages, it would be difficult to find out.

These messages are becoming like fine wine. Each break brings a new insight, but at the same time reducing the number of opportunities that are left to enjoy it.

Hey guys!

I'm new here, but after downloading the BOINC client and looking through the list of projects, this one caught my attention!

I'd just like to add another thought to the actual translation of this message: I'm an American and live in the US, but I do speak fluent German from my upbringing of 10 years in Germany as a child. I spoke both German and English fluently.

With that said, the first two words definitely seem like they should mean "instructions" or "directions" from the word Anleitung:
http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Anleitung

I do see the possibility of the radio control station and all that, but just thought I'd add that as a fluent German speaker, the most natural sentence would be if the first word(s) was Anleitung upon reading it for the first time.

Whether that means it really is Anleitung or not is of course something we will probably never know, but grats to everyone who helped on this cracking! It seems exciting to take part in this.

The message we are currently working on is the last message I think. There were originally only 3 messages but more were discovered, including this last one. Enigma@home admins say that the message will be cracked between now and late 2017.

Message 3649 - Posted: 9 Nov 2015, 12:42:57 UTC - in response to Message 2563.

by the way, can we use the each next decrypted key/combination to decrypt the remaining messages ?

No we can't.
As we known, the German navy had a password book, which made the soldiers to change the key everyday.

As this message came from a submarine, this password book is either out-of-date and destroyed by Germany, or sunk with the boat, flooded and decayed.
