According to the server status page, there is plenty. But I'm seeing this on all my boxes right now:

1/12/2008 11:35:50 AM|Enigma@Home|Requesting 13280 seconds of new work, and reporting 1 completed tasks
1/12/2008 11:35:55 AM|Enigma@Home|Scheduler RPC succeeded [server version 601]
1/12/2008 11:35:55 AM|Enigma@Home|Deferring communication for 1 min 0 sec
1/12/2008 11:35:55 AM|Enigma@Home|Reason: no work from project

Sent results are not updating like normal on my stats page either.

Well there was a problem, because someone tried to DoS the server. Average load on te database server was so high, that some daemons worked extremely slow (mainly the transitioner and work generator), after some time the transitioner crashed. A this moment everything is slowly going back to normal state.

I'm new to M4/Enigma and WU processing with the optimized client on my C2D box was seemingly normal until about an hour ago [00:44:41 GMT] when the server stopped meting out work. As reported by -jim earlier in this thread, the Server Status page indicates there's plenty of work available.

Here's an excerpt of what I'm seeing in the BOINC Manager's message field:

Anybody know what the issue is and how it can be quickly resolved?? I'm down to only five WUs in the queue.
KINDLY PLEASE ADVISE.

Ditto. Hopefully it's not another DoS attack. :|

Server load looks OK, though....

Whatever and wherever the problem was, it's apparently resolved for the moment. With zero WUs remaining in the queue and just moments before I was about to shift CPU cycles to another DC project, Enigma servers refilled the cache.

Will continue to monitor my BOINC message logs and post reports of any future abnormalities.

BTW, thanks for the feedback -jim. ;-)

Hi TJM...

I'm getting No Work from Project messages for the last few hours.

TeAm Anandtech (as well as L'Alliance Francophone) is planning to keep returning results through the weekend as well as after you shut down the Work Generator to help keep the project alive in your transition...

best,

-jim

edit: As an aside, would it be possible to extend the WU deadline to a point in the future where Enigma might be in its new home? Just a thought....

TJM: If you need somewhere else to host some of this stuff, just say so, as I guess several people on this project have got good HW on good bandwidth. :)

That would only work for new work anyway, not for work already out there as all those tasks have the 4 day deadline built in. The server can't give out a message to all that work that its deadline has changed from 4 to 40 days without canceling the outstanding work and re-releasing it.

While Enigma on BOINC is down, I would like to run the standalone client on my C2D machine.

Setting up to process workunits as an anonymous user doesn't seem to be a problem, but if possible I'd like to tie in using my already established (via BOINC) Enigma account User ID or email address and password. This done, I'm hoping that M4/Enigma knows whence the results and can credit my account and I can review the results. Is this possible and Can anybody point me in the right direction? I attempted to do this during setup a half hour ago but NO JOY, so I'm running as an anonymous user for the moment.

Here's a snapshot of what I'm seeing:

No and no. The M4 Enigma project is completely separate of the Enigma project run through BOINC. Any credits, if you get those already, I doubt it, will only be accumulated towards the stand-alone project, not to BOINC. It's a bit like Seti Classic and Seti through BOINC, their outcomes not being compatible.

Also, anyone know if it's possible to run the optimized client in the standalone configuration?

As far as I know, the enigma application can be run stand-alone. Whether it can run with the M4 work units is for TJM to answer.

Still no new work. Server status says:

Any news would be great...

I'm guessing malariacontrol.net is happy that this project is down... They're number two in my list and getting almost all my CPU-cycles now. :)

That's the best thing about BOINC, if one project is down, there is always some other work to do.

Hosting is not a problem, the real problem is that I'll be 'offline' (without internet connection) for some time. I can't just leave the project running - sooner or later something will crash or fail and I won't be able to fix it without any access (local or remote) to the servers.

I can't do that, because at this moment I don't know exactly when I'll be able to resume the project, also the temporary server where I'll leave part of the software running is not fast enough to run everything.

M4 project doesn't have any user statistics/credits/accounts.

Yep, just rename the executable and replate the default one with it.

FYI, the M4 project sends workunits longer than the BOINC version - if I remember correctly, it sends first 100 letters, here we had only first 72. The runtime should be between 30 and 50% longer.

There won't be new work before I'll be back home (read this post) or before I'll get internet access. I had to switch off workunit generator around 12hrs ealrier that I planned to, because of two reasons: at night and early morning I had connection problem(s) which I couldn't fix - I guess that's because weather here is quite bad atm (strong wind which also caused several short power outages already); the second reason is that part of the server backend had a 'one million workunits bug' - a small glitch which crashed downloader and workunits wrapper to crash when processing workunits with IDs higher than 999999.
