At the beginning of February I'm moving to a place where my access to the internet (and probably amount of free time) will be very limited (yes, there are such places in Poland :-)). I guess that (at least for first few weeks) my cellphone + gprs will be the best connection I'll be able to get there.
That means I'll have to suspend the project for some time, because I can't just leave the servers up and hope that nothing will crash/fail while I'll be hundreds of kilometers away without any way to fix problems.
Around 26th January I'll stop the workunit generator, then I'll wait for results to return. The server software will be moved to a temporary location (same hosting where project's http reverse-proxy and download mirror is running atm), where I'll be able to keep it online without worrying about hardware failures or longer power outages; however it will remain suspended for at least few weeks, until I'll get any decent internet connection.
I don't know (yet) when I'll be back, I'll post an update on this around mid Feb.

If I understand correctly, you'll be unavailable for a few weeks
... but the project will only be down for a few days? Wondering as Enigma@home is on a POTM vote for our team.

Calm Chaos... are you feeling it yet?

Oops, read your post again...

"... it will remain suspended for at least a few weeks..."

Have a safe move, TJM :)

Well, I've turned my project resource shares upside down for the next few days as a little 'happy move' gift... no need to panic my computers alone are barely noticable, lol.

I will miss this project while it's down and I think only my team mates won't be surprised :)

Hope all goes well with the move. I've enjoyed crunching Enigma this month, and may retry later once you're re-established. It would probably be a good thing to post this on the front page, as I only knew about it because a TeAm-mate posted about it in the Anandtech DC forum.

cheers,

Yep, I'll be 'offline' for some time. The server will be up (I hope :-P), but part of the daemons will be disabled and project will be out of work. It might be offline for a short period when I'll be moving everything to the second server.

Too bad for me that such places don't only exist in Poland ;-)

I have one system running the standalone client directly from bytereef (http://www.bytereef.org/m4_project.html), will that one be affected also or is this shutdown only for enigma@home?

It won't be affected, only the BOINC part will be out of work.

I was able to get many WUs before the planned outage began and obviously have not received any since then. However, I am curious about the fact that when I look at the status of the servers, nothing shows as down. Since the servers are not sending out new WUs during this planned outage, why do all servers appear to be running? (Is there a server handling multiple tasks, as one possibility?)

Any update? I see I am receiving work units again.

The server is up and running again, I'm slowly adding some new features to the server code: http://www.enigmaathome.net/forum_thread.php?id=2&nowrap=true#501

Btw, do not expect the project to be very reliable until I'll come back home (I'm planning to move back around 6th Oct but this date may change). Any serious hardware/software failure can take the server down for days, like last time when PSU fried.
