(scary campfire type story)

Enigma@home. When it first started, everyone was excited to help in finally decoding the messages! After huge amounts of processing, the first message was decoded in February of 2006. About a month later, the second message was decoded! Everyone was so excited, and waited for the final message to be cracked.

Over time, the project began to die. Months passed, then years. The message went on, unbroken. The news started to fade away, and the message boards became empty. Nobody comes here anymore, and nobody knows about the enigma.

8 years later, even after all this time, the project lives on: a ghost of a memory. Tasks are still sent, and results are still returned. They say that somewhere, somehow, sombody found the project, and has kept the servers online for all this time. Silently waiting, silently crunching. The project lives on.

The project lives on.

A ghost of a memory.

A long forgotten memory.

The ghost project

Interesting post from a brand new user. The main pages could definitely use some updating, but the project is still working... Details on the current work can be found elsewhere in the forum.

Yes, I am a new user. I'm just saying that it looks like this project died out years ago, but it somehow never shutdown. :-P

The site could do with some update, but the reality is the code remains unbroken. I'd hate to think what would have happened if the Pro's at Bletchley went home because it too too long to crack...

This message might tell us the location of the secret buried Me262 crates! We need to crack it!

"Quiet too quiet!" ........ can't disagree with that my friend.

I joined only a couple of months ago to help out as it looked quite interesting .... now, I'm not so keen after looking at the dates of the posts (should have taken the time to view these earlier, but didn't) and after completing 400,000 units I am bailing out and shall look to use my CPU and RAM on an alternative.

I too have just joined his project and would like to contribute to a possibly historically significant find.

However, no work units have been send back to me...

did you install the boinc version of the program? You most have the project activated in order to receive wu. Sorry I can't help you more. I am mostly on WCG.

Ghost project theory begone! Pfft! Just re-enlisted with a dead HTC Desire HD phone and a new battery, doing crunching as you read this. It's still open and a lot of work to be done!

It'll be interesting to see your stats! I'm running an experia J solely for Enigma. It averages about 250 credits per day, but is left on charge most of the time because BOINC eats the battery very quickly.
