I have two old, dying Vista era computers (and a more recent laptop coming soon) people gave me, and I'd love to use Enigma again on them! They are 64-bit Slackware and I have been running other BOINC projects on them. Is all the focus on the GPU clients now or will the Windows CPU version of AV be ported to Linux too?

Hello,

for a week or so my pc´s did not get any new workunits.
all of them are windows 10.
The only one how get´s a lot of work is the GPU-PC.

Is this normal? The serverstats are all green.....

thx, ingo

Same here, but I'm not getting the GPU, as it was disabled. I enabled "Run test applications" and "Enigma GPU Test" and "Accept work for other applications" After update did nothing, I removed and readded the project, but only the following files were downloaded:

Is this the "fifth and final message" we had been working on before we switched to AV and GPU?

Nope this one was taken from cryptocellar.org, and there are some more unbroken messages left.

How many? I thought there was only that one.

6) Message boards : Number crunching : Does this project still support Linux ? (Message 5299)

My Linux systems (Raspberry Pi) have not received any work for weeks.
According to the server status page work is only available for Enigma AV, but there are no Enigma AV applications for Linux.
Will there be work for Linux systems in the (near) future or should I detach my systems from this project ?

Thanks,

Tom

When Enigma AV came out, it was WIndows only, though TJM has promised to eventually release a Linux version. The CUDA version is Windows only as well.

I have been using a self-compiled Enigma AV from source code and with customized XML files given to me by user oh2hyt. It works great. Ask him for the files and the source code. Unfortunately it doesn't cover CUDA, which is a real loss from me to the Enigma@Home project.

I hope TJM releases an official Linux version of both CPU and CUDA at least soon. Especially CUDA as my machines can go through them really fast.

Will the new GPU clients bring back support for Linux, and will they be 64-bit? Also, when should I expect Enigma AV to be ported to Linux, and will that be 64-bit?

Enigma AV is written in C and is available with source code:

http://www.dxatlas.com/DxMath/Enigma/EnigmaSolution.src.zip

It should not be difficult to rebuild it for Linux, 32 and 64 bit.

I was never able to get unofficial clients working. It always fails, erases, and downloads the official one.

My guess is that all generated workunits (results ready to send) are for Enigma AV application, which is available only for windows.

Does anyone know if the Enigma AV ever have a Linux version, and will it be 32-bit or 64-bit?

Hi,

I have my main Linux machine (running Xubuntu v17.04 64-bit), plus an old 2007 or so Vista era computer in its last days, which I dedicated to Enigma (Slackware v14.2 32-bit). I haven't been getting work on either of them, only my Windows 10 computer gets new work.

I noticed on Windows 10 the application says "Enigma AV," is that the GPU version mentioned here on the forums? BOINC doesn't report it as a GPU or partially-GPU project. My Xubuntu and Win10 both have an NVIDIA GeForce 960 and both run CUDA and OpenCL BOINC projects just fine.

Also, should I switch the old computer to 64-bit? Slackware out of the box only offers one or the other, and since Enigma is/was 32-bit only so I chose that. The old computer isn't compatible with any GPU projects, it has an outdated ATI Radeon HD 3450 (yes ATI). I'm just waiting for it to die.

Anyone else having these problems, no work on Linux, and whatever this "Enigma AV" is, does/will it offer the option of native 64-bit?

Thank you!

I see on the server status that there is work. However, every time I try to fetch work I get a "communication deferred" message and it waits 4 minutes. Then, the same happens again 4 minutes later. Any idea what might be going on?

Maybe this? http://www.enigmaathome.net/forum_thread.php?id=834&postid=4602#4602

TJM needs to do something. If he wants to see this project completed especially this year, the project cannot suffer long outages. Contributors can leave and never comeback.

Even more important, TJM needs to update the page to say we are on the fifth, not the third, message. His updates refuse to mention anything other than "Site problems fixed" or "New message cracked" and people leave all the time out of suspicion or confusion because they don't know we solved the third message in 2013 and are working on a fifth message.

Thought I'd mention, I discovered that if you (re)attached Enigma@home during the downtime period, per the bug report here, you will need to remove and re-attach again to get the complete group of files, otherwise no Enigma tasks will download to that client.

I really think TJM needs to open the reins to someone else if he isn't going to be around all that often.

What about Jaro? He comes here at least once a month to give the estimated time remaining. I'd imagine all you'd have to do is check something once or twice a month and deal with problems if they happen.

At this point the estimated end date is never.

Wasn't it suggested that the admin might be on a 5-week vacation, and the failure started on or near March 25 2017, 5 weeks from which would end on April 29?

I think that is consequence of server thinking memory requirement beeing massive and your computer not meeting it. So it doesn't offer binaries at all.

Really? Two of mine have 32 GB RAM.

Hi,

I have another bug to report, once the admin gets back:

If you install Enigma@home for the first time, using Linux as an example, only the following files are downloaded:

    enigma_icon.png
    enigma_slide_01.png
    enigma_slide_02.png
    enigma_slide_03.png
    enigma_slide_04.png

    enigma_slide_06.png
    enigma_slide_07.png

    slideshow_enigma_m4_naval_2_04
    slideshow_enigma_m4_naval_2_05
    slideshow_enigma_m4_naval_2_06
    slideshow_enigma_m4_naval_2_07

No other files, including the binaries (enigma and wrapper) are downloaded.

Thank you, and hope the admin comes back soon, might have to move the estimated end date to November then,

2nd dictionary was finished, all workunits done. logical to remove it after

No, that was the 3rd dictionary, a few months ago we exhausted it. The 2nd dictionary has quite a lot of workunits left.

Don't know why Bernard took over my idea that I figured out and don't know how he's collecting the data, so I can't tell you more about it Danq. :D

I thought you had changed your username to Bernard and were the same person.

Yeah, you're right, the main page should be updated but there is one problem - propably only TJM has the rights to change this page.

Because of that, the thing you called "teasing" (something more about it? :D) is actually the only way to get to familiarize with E@H.

Because you did this "milestones" thread, I thought you were another administrator with access to a script of some kind. You also said this here, which might have confused me and I thought you were deliberately "teasing" potential users:

http://www.enigmaathome.net/forum_thread.php?id=341&postid=4062#4062

Good luck on the project, we're closing this message in few months and if TJM is not going to do something else, it's completed.

Are you saying you are ending the project early? :(

Also, how does TJM (or you) know when there's a "match"?
