Date: 28 February 2017
Workunits done: 187 363 312/227 760 000 (82,26%)
The odds of cracking the message in the next 24 hours (based on current workrate): 0,45746%

Projected 100% completion: End of September 2017 (218 days)
Next milestone: 85,0% (projected: Start of April 2017)

Hey, you cheated, 218 days is October 4 :(

I still think you will get more attention from other BOINC users if you updated the front page to say we are on the fifth message and the third was cracked in 2013, rather than the strategy you have of teasing people into getting the full story on the forums.

Regardless someone gave me a dying Vista era computer a month ago which I put Xubuntu LTS on and will be working on only Enigma until the end :)

Jaro, I really think you need to reconsider your "teaser" approach of not updating the front page about the 3rd message being cracked years ago and now being on the 5th so as to get people involved in the forums. I understand you want to get people involved in the project but as you can see people are just being scared off because they don't have time to read years worth of posts. I just threw in a dying 10 year old Dell to the project, and if others knew we were finishing up before the end of this year they can probably do so too.

This project is "almost done" for 3 years, at least. I mean when I started tinkering TJM said it was almost done.
No real progress since then IMO - this is what I would expect from this type of attack on cipher. At some point there will be a "big bang" and message will become broken.

We haven't been working on the fifth message that long, have we?

Given the project is almost done, and the possibility of bugs in third-party applications, should we really be making optimized applications?

I just looked at the team list and found that the majority have zero total credit, zero members, and zero recent average credit. I have also noticed many duplicate names. How long is "recent"? Do you have creation dates for the teams? Is there a way to get in touch with the creator of the teams?

It's possible that people left the project (or didn't give it a chance) because they think we're still working on the third message we solved in 2013, and have never used the forums (which would tell them about the fourth and fifth messages). If we are contacting team members, we should inform them of the fifth message we are currently working on, since from the occasionally updated project news page, they would have no idea. Then they can inform team members, which could increase participation.

Because, I just discovered another bug, the ability to auto subscribe to threads doesn't seem to have any effect.

Another bug: Trying to mark articles read redirects to a local IP and fails.

What is the status of this project? Haven't all three messages been cracked? If so, what is my computer cranking on?

Thanks.

(sigh) The third message was cracked in 2013. Two messages were discovered later. We are solving the fifth and final message. Won't someone update the front page?

Hey sometimes i get a crashdown bluescreen ob my computer while im chrunching with bonic

the bluescreen says that the error is becourse memory management

i get the bluescren only if i crunshing with bonic

after restart some workunits in bonic says "calculation error"

Probably an issue with defective memory chips, you can download the SystemRescueCD (system-rescue-cd.org) Linux live CD and run Memtest. You don't need to know Linux, as Memtest should be in the CD's boot menu.

I have also gotten "computation errors" when there have been upgrades or changes in graphics drivers. To keep that to a minimum, I suggest you leave graphics driver settings to "Notify on upgrade" instead of "Install automatically" and close BOINC when you need to upgrade the graphics drivers. Installing graphics drivers will most likely ask you to restart your computer, after which BOINC will start up again.

Hi,

I recently noted that a "profile" I set up some time ago was simply "Your opinions about Enigma@home", which still leaves me ineligible for User Of The Day. So I went to edit the profile, but there is no button next to "Submit Profile", so I am unable to make any changes, either to "your opinions" or "profile". Running Firefox v49.0.1

Thank you!

But...for what reason? You've got everything about the project said on the forum...

Because people are confused and even suspicious and shouldn't have to go digging around on forums to find 10 years worth of information. Why would any Web site do that?

Hi,

Why doesn't anyone update the incorrect and outdated information on the front page? Every now and then we get people who think we are still on the third message, and recently we know some new member got suspicious of how the third message has taken "over 10 years" and left. Why can't anyone update it to "fifth of five messages" or "we later discovered two more messages, and we are on the last of those?" The blog seems to be slightly updated in that saying the third message (?) has been solved? Why doesn't anyone update the page with the correct information? Does this project even have an administrator or are our work units being ignored?

Thank you!

Me, with two i7-4790K CPUs, with 2 of the 8 threads (plus a Geforce GTX 960) dedicated to BOINC for most of the day.

The only CPU projects I run are Enigma@Home and OGR via Yoyo@Home (the others I use GPU-only). I recently decided to stop using OGR for a while and dedicate my CPU work solely to Enigma@Home.

What's the deal? The website says 100 participants could solve any message in 4 days. There were three, we're in 2016...

Someone needs to update the page with information that the "third" was cracked years ago and we are on the last of a newly discovered batch.

Should probably mention that I finally got tired with Slackware's two years of teasing and installed LinuxMint 17.3 XFCE. When using third-party repositories that are more up-to-date, I've found it to have the benefits I enjoy with Slackware without the inconveniences that Slackware has. A repository of up-to-date NVIDIA proprietary drivers allows me to use GPU-based SETI@Home, and being multilib compatible Enigma@Home works too.

So now I have a Windows and a Linux computer, both having the same i7-4790k CPU, GTX 960 GPU, and 32 GB RAM, and both working on the same projects, which doubles my contribution to BOINC including Enigma@Home.

Could you try removing

        <file_ref>
            <file_name>job.xml</file_name>
        </file_ref>

from app_info.xml?

I could replicate this problem on my end as well, but I could not force BOINC to get more work so testing this is really hard.

Edit: I think that solves the problem. However, a new problem emerges. It seems that the job.xml I got from other optimized app could be out of date and the parameters to enigma executable are incorrect. I'll look into that.

That keeps the precompiled Sandy Bridge app in the folder, but every downloaded WU fails with "Computation error".

BTW I upgraded to slackware-current, since v14.2 is almost ready and they're taking backorders for DVD-ROMs. So if there's a need to compile from source I can do that. My CPU is Haswell Reloaded/Devil's Canyon which four steps higher than Sandy Bridge.

I recently packaged a ready to built source, it is available at https://github.com/whs/enigmathome. The release page also have prebuilt binaries for multiple -march and OS.

I haven't test this yet, the project server refused to give me any works (could be because of the server, or my app_info.xml) so please give feedback if you do get any work with this on.

I cannot use this, here is why:

(TLDR: BOINC deletes the files enigma and wrapper on each start, and I cannot compile as I'm stuck with CMAKE v2.8)

The last stable version of vanilla Slackware (v14.1) was released in 2013, and installing the "slackware-current" rolling release would involve a major and possibly destructive overhaul. "Slackware-current" v14.2 is currently in its second beta version.

I was unable to compile the source, since the CMAKE version requires version 3, which is present in v14.2 Beta, while Slackware v14.1 uses 2.8. For this reason I could not generate a Makefile. I tried installing CMAKE from v14.2 Beta, but it requires newer libstdc++ which would surely cause chaos if I upgraded that.

So I attempted to use the binaries for Sandy Bridge (I have a Haswell Refresh i7-4790k), and put the four files into the projects folder. That didn't work because BOINC deletes "enigma" and "wrapper" on each start! The log gives a vague message about job.xml not being present, when it is present in that same folder.

I posted this to an older stickied thread, just in case anyone didn't see it:

Hi,

I use 64-bit Slackware on one of my computers, which "out of the box" isn't backwards compatible with 32-bit binaries (or binaries supporting both). I have no interest in making it compatible, but would love to get Enigma@home on it.

Does anyone know where I can get the source code to compile this 64-bit version (the binary must not link to any 32-bit library)? Also, to install it, is it just a matter of ignoring BOINC's "not for your system" error, quit, and just drop the binary in the Projects subdirectory?

Thank you!
